College Football: Grading each top 10 team’s Week 1 performance
No. 5 Clemson beat Kent State 56-3
Offense: A
Defense: A+
Overall: A
Clemson is the reigning national champions played and they played like they want to repeat as national champions. New Tigers quarterback Kelly Bryant has huge Deshaun Watson sized shoes to fill. Clemson is as talented as any team in the nation. The only thing that can derail this team off a collision course with the college football playoff is quarterback play.
The Clemson offense did not miss a beat from last year. The Tigers played well from the opening kick. The team rushed for 353 yards on 8.2 yards per carry and six TDs. The passing game didn’t disappoint either. The team passed for 312 yards with a pair of touchdowns. If we are going to nitpick, Kelly Bryant threw an interception.
The defense gets an A+ because the stats blew my mind. Clemson only gave up only gave up one passing yard and 120 total yards. How on earth do you hold another college football program to one yard passing?
Overall, I hate the fact Kent State is on Clemson’s schedules, but Clemson dominated cover to cover.
