5. Week 1 performance an indicator of things to come

Shea Patterson had one of the best Week 1 performances of any quarterback in the country. Unlike Mizzou QB Drew Lock with his 521 passing yards and seven touchdowns, Patterson put up his numbers against a solid team.

In limited action last year, Patterson tossed six touchdowns and only three interceptions. He showed the significant improvement that much of the college football world expected from him. This is a potential first round NFL Draft pick in Oxford.

Ole Miss did not even need the ground attack to win this one. Starting running back Jordan Wilkins only got eight carries for 29 yards. If Ole Miss can give Patterson a consistent running game to work with, the sky is the limit for him.

Very few quarterbacks can throw four touchdowns and more than 400 yards with no turnovers in the first game of their sophomore year. Patterson is a special quarterback that can do big things with Ole Miss in 2017.
