Ole Miss Football: 5 reasons Shea Patterson is a real Heisman contender
4. Ole Miss can consistently compete with Alabama
The only team to defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide in two of the last three season is Ole Miss. The Rebels beat Bama in 2014 and 2015. Behind former quarterback Chad Kelly, the Rebels fell just short of defeating the Tide last year.
For some reason, Ole Miss has Alabama’s number. It’s the one team that Nick Saban cannot seem to prepare for. However, the departure of Freeze could eliminate all possibility of Ole Miss defeating Alabama again in the near future.
If Ole Miss does beat the Tide it would be because of Patterson. He’s a talented quarterback, just like Alabama’s Jalen Hurts. He can outplay Hurts but he would have to continue the momentum gained from the South Alabama contest throughout the regular season.
Winning the Heisman would mean Patterson dethroned Alabama as the undefeated team in the SEC West. The Crimson Tide did not lose until they faced the Clemson Tigers in the National Championship Game last year.
