The Florida State Seminoles fell to the first-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, but that wasn’t the worst of it. They also lost quarterback Deondre Francois in the fourth quarter and he’s out for the season now due to a torn patella tendon injury.

The Seminoles defense didn’t play bad outside of allowing a big play in the first quarter. After that, they played well to hold the Crimson Tide offense at bay. They held Alabama to 13 first downs and 96 passing yards. Most of their production came in the run game where they had 173 rushing yards.

Francois was 19-for-33 with 210 passing yards and a touchdown but also had two interceptions in the game. The touchdown he threw was a three-yard pass to wide receiver Auden Tate early in the second quarter. His offensive line did well to protect him outside of the sack on his blindside. It was the Crimson Tide’s third sack of the game.

A fumble by the special teams followed by two interceptions by Francois took away all the momentum from the Seminoles and they never recovered.

Their drop in the power rankings comes due to the question mark now looming at quarterback with true freshman James Blackman. There’s a bit of time to develop him before the team faces the Miami Hurricanes in a few weeks.

This week the Florida State Seminoles face the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks from the Sun Belt conference. Look for the offense to lean heavily on the legs of Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers from here on out.

The defense should carry them to some victories this season.
