Loser: Florida State Seminoles (No. 3 down to No. 10)

Remember all that talk in preseason about Derwin James playing on special teams and offense in some situations? Those may come to fruition after it’s all said and done for the Florida State Seminoles.

The Seminoles took some heat in this week’s AP Poll after their 24-7 loss to first-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.

They dropped all the way from third to 10th in this week’s rankings. It certainly had everything to do with the loss of quarterback Deondre Francois for the season.

True freshman James Blackman is next man up to take snaps at quarterback. His inexperience with the Seminoles’ offense is certainly a huge disadvantage so a huge tweak could be in order for head coach Jimbo Fisher and company.

They still have a top-ranked defense with safety Derwin James but they may need to change their approach on offense with loss of Francois.

Special teams could certainly use some new blood after a mishap changed the Florida State Seminoles’ fortune while they trailed just 13-7 in the game.

The running backs were used sparingly in Week One as well against the Alabama front. Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers combined for 47 rushing yards on 16 carries.

We’ll see how the Seminoles adjust, although there’s not much time as they face the 16th-ranked Miami Hurricanes on September 16.
