Kevin Sumlin, dead coach walking

Kevin Sumlin was a man who was going to have an upfield battle either way in the 2017 season for Texas A&M. Mainly due to the rigid and rough life that exists in the SEC West. Then you add in the frequent late season meltdowns vs. conference and non-conference opponents and all of the sudden the 2017 season opener at UCLA becomes a much bigger game than most would anticipate.

For about 44 minutes, everything was going A&M’s way. They had put up 44 points, held Josh Rosen and the UCLA Bruins to a measly 10. A&M was going to go 1-0 and have a nice start to the season. Then everything turned south, in a matter of about 16 minutes.

The UCLA Bruins scored 35 unanswered to defeat Texas A&M 45-44. While losing to a team that you were dominating is bad. Having a member of the TAMU Board of Regents call for your firing just hours afterward is even worse.

"“I’m only one vote on the Board of Regents but when the time comes my vote will be that Kevin Sumlin needs to GO. In my view he should go now. We owe it to our school and our players. We can do better.” —TAMU Board of Regents member Tony Buzbee."

The only thing that could save Sumlin at this point is winning the SEC West and even then it might not be enough. Don’t be shocked if we see Sumlin gone by mid-October and remember it was this game that ended his run in College Station.
