Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs leap to No. 3 in this week’s power rankings thanks to an impressive 63-0 shutout against Jackson State.

Kenny Hill completed a masterful 18-of-23 passes for just over 200 yards and four scores. And he did it without a true No. 1 target. Fourteen — not a typo — different players recorded a catch for the Horned Frogs, with only one player catching more than two. If that’s not spreading the wealth, I’m not sure what is.

But so what, TCU hung 63 on Jackson State. Big deal. Well, it kind of is. No other team in the conference scored 60 opening week. More important than that, though? TCU held their opponent scoreless. Those expectations shouldn’t carry over into Big 12 play, but Patterson is known for his defense and they’ve struggled on that side of the ball recently.

The Horned Frogs will take to the road this weekend against an Arkansas squad that won 49-7 opening weekend; somebody’s defense is going to break.
