2. Brian Lewerke will top 300 yards passing against the Broncos

Last year, it seemed like Brian Lewerke might emerge as the next great Michigan State quarterback. Lewerke started two games as a redshirt freshman and played in four. He would likely have earned more playing time as well, if not for a broken fibia sustained coming off the bench against rival Michigan.

In his first appearance as the undisputed starter, Lewerke racked up 250 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-33 passing. The young passer looked poised and confident leading the Spartans offense against Bowling Green. As he acclimates to life as the starter, Lewerke could be in for an even bigger day in Week 2.

Western Michigan has a decent secondary that held USC quarterback Sam Darnold to 289 yards and no touchdowns. They also picked off Darnold twice. But they were also game-planning for Darnold, given that he is one of the most hyped quarterbacks in the country. Lewerke has far less of a reputation, and could take advantage to put up some huge stats.

Look for Michigan State’s new quarterback to have his first 300-yard passing day in college. Lewerke should hit a few touchdown passes, though he might also end up tossing his first pick of the season. Either way, it’ll be a day to remember for the sophomore.
