4. Thomas Sirk cannot keep up with WVU offense

Duke transfer quarterback Thomas Sirk was named the starter vs. West Virginia. Sirk was solid during his tenure with the Blue Devils and he’s with a former Duke coach. ECU head coach Scottie Montgomery came over from Duke a few years ago after former head coach Ruffin McNeill was fired.

A fellow transfer quarterback in Will Grier will be facing Sirk. Grier is a more talented quarterback as has a better supporting cast around him. Virginia Tech held West Virginia to 24 points but that is not something that ECU is likely able to do.

If ECU could only put up 14 points and allow 34 from James Madison, it’s wild to think of what West Virginia can do. This Mountaineer offense has talent at every skill position. The receiving corps is among the best in the country and the running backs are solid.

West Virginia might put up more than 50 points in this game. While ECU is only a 24-point underdog, this one could get ugly very quick. Sirk did not throw a single touchdown pass last week and that will cost the Pirates dearly this week.
