First-year head coach Tom Herman still has a lot of work to do with the Texas Longhorns. The media put the Horns in the top 25 after seeing them post a losing record for the third consecutive season in 2016.

We now know that a fourth consecutive losing season is possible for Texas. However, they have the opportunity to quickly get back on track against the San Jose State Spartans. If the Charlie Strong-coached South Florida Bulls can beat San Jose State, so can Texas.

Sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele had a good outing in Week 1. He threw for more than 350 yards and three touchdowns. The Longhorn defense was what cost them the game against Maryland.

San Jose State does have the capability to put up some points. Yet, a loss to the Spartans would throw this Texas program into chaos. Herman needs to come out with a victory this week to create some type of positive buzz entering the USC game.
