2. Iowa @ Iowa State

12:00 pm ET, ESPN2

The Northern Iowa Panthers were a good warmup for the Iowa State Cyclones in Week One. The Cyclones won 42-24, but it wasn’t without a bit of struggle on offense.

Iowa State’s first two scores came on interception returns on back-to-back series to put them up 14-7 late in the first quarter. After that the Cyclones found their groove, scoring 21 straight points on their way to victory.

Iowa State wide receiver Allen Lazard is the wildcard in this week’s matchup. He’s one of the best receivers in the Big 12 and should standout in the game. He had eight receptions for 108 receiving yards.

The Iowa Hawkeyes defense should be tough for the Iowa State offense to handle but will serve as a good test. The Hawkeyes were stifling in their Week One victory over Wyoming 24-3. They forced two interceptions and didn’t allow a touchdown pass in the game.

Iowa had four turnovers in the game on offense themselves. The Cowboys couldn’t capitalize on the mistakes, but Iowa State will if given the opportunity.

The Cyclones haven’t beaten the Hawkeyes since the 2014 season. Iowa won last year’s matchup 42-3. Taking that all into account, expect the Iowa State Cyclones to give Iowa a game this week, at least hypothetically. It’s one of those early under-the-radar rivalry games that has the potential to be a close game.
