College Football Rankings 2017: Projected Week 3 AP Top 25
By Zach Bigalke
On Saturday, No. 25 Tennessee probably did enough to keep itself in the AP Top 25. It could be close, though, based on the results in other games featuring teams right behind the Volunteers among those also receiving votes in the Week 2 poll. After romping over FCS Indiana State at home, though, Butch Jones’ team should remain ranked heading into Week 3.
The Volunteers took the lead immediately, as Ty Chandler returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. John Kelly rushed for 80 yards, but it was Carlin Fils-aime that punched in Tennessee’s two rushing touchdowns. The Sycamores managed just 215 total yards of offense, and their only touchdown came on a short drive after Tennessee fumbled away their opening drive of the third quarter.
It wasn’t a spectacular performance by the Vols, but it was a big enough victory to keep them among the AP Top 25 for another week. Now they turn their focus toward a trip to face Florida in a battle of SEC East contenders as well as teams vying to remain in the polls.
