South Florida came into Week 2 as the only 2-0 team in the AP Top 25. USF will exit the weekend with the same record after their trip to Connecticut was canceled due to Hurricane Irma’s approach. It might give pollsters time to forget about the Bulls.

That might not necessarily be a bad thing, after the impression they left in getting their first two wins. Both their 42-22 road win against San Jose State and 31-17 win over FCS Stony Brook were underwhelming, and football voters responded by dropping the Bulls two spots in the AP Top 25. A win over Connecticut wasn’t going to tip the needle much higher for Charlie Strong’s team.

Now USF can rest, regroup, and hopefully get a chance to take on Illinois at home in Week 3. Instead of playing three games in 12 days, the Bulls are facing a different strain on their attention. Things are always going to be tough for a Group of Five team, though, and South Florida could drop a spot or two due to the other results around the country.
