3. Scott Frost is head coach of Cornhuskers in 2019

Scott Frost will be the Nebraska head coach by 2019. With what he’s already done at UCF, taking them from unvictorious (made that word up) to bowl bound in year one. Now the Knights are 1-0 and heading hosting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

UCF will face two flexbone triple option offenses this season (they travel to Navy in October) and if Frost can prove his kicking game and defense have improved, the Husker job could be his. Frost is Husker royalty, having won a national title as the starting quarterback and then coaching in two more title games while an assistant at Oregon.

Mike Riley is a fish out of water in Lincoln and has led the Huskers to six and nine wins. But now they’ve looked shaky against Arkansas State and lost to Oregon. The Huskers have games against Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern and improving Purdue. That could be six losses in 2017 and could put him on the hot seat in Lincoln.

Riley won’t have the leash that a Husker would and could be let go after 2018 if he can’t get Nebraska into the Big Ten title game. I don’t want to speculate too much but Riley could land on his feet at Arizona, Arizona State or even Washington State if more shake-ups ensue (can you imagine Mike Leach in Los Angeles?).
