4. Gus Malzahn will soon be on the hot seat

Head coach Gus Malzahn faced off against one of the highest-regarded coaches in college football in Clemson’s Dabo Swinney. However, Malzahn showed to be the inferior coach of the two. Malzahn had no answer for Clemson’s defense in the second half.

Swinney and defensive coordinator Brent Venables got a pass rush going that completely derailed any progress the Auburn offense possibly could have made. This is disappointing to see because landing Stidham was supposed to give Malzahn the quarterback he needed to run his offense.

Auburn fans have high expectations of both their football program and their head coach. Malzahn has not put together more than an eight-win season since they made an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game back in the 2013 season.

If Malzahn does not start winning more games this year, his job could soon be on the line. There’s a few head coaches in the SEC that will dominate headlines more than Malzahn. Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin, Arkansas’s Bret Bielema, and Tennessee’s Butch Jones could all be gone by season’s end.
