Auburn Football: 5 overreactions from loss to Clemson

3. Auburn’s defense is the best in the SEC

While Clemson’s pass rush was the biggest focus of the game, Auburn’s defense performed admirably for the second consecutive week. The loss of stars like Carl Lawson does not seem to have phased this group.

If not for Kelly Bryant slipping through the Auburn defense on two occasions, this defense did not make any real mistakes. They held Bryant to less than 200 passing yards and zero passing touchdowns.

There’s an upcoming stretch for Auburn after they face the Mercer Bears in Week 3 that will show how good the defense actually is. Drew Lock and the Missouri Tigers host Auburn in Week 4 and the Mississippi State Bulldogs travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium in Week 5.

Auburn does have some chances to get back on track and really challenge the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC West. However, only time will tell which top 25 team has the best defense in the conference. Auburn is one of those teams that might.
