Auburn Football: 5 overreactions from loss to Clemson
1. Carlton Davis is the leader of the defense
Junior defensive back Carlton Davis led the Auburn defense in tackles. Davis racked up 11 tackles and two pass deflections. Tray Matthews also had himself a big game with five tackles and a fumble recovery.
Auburn actually ended up winning the turnover battle. Clemson running back C.J. Fuller and wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud each coughed up one fumble. Stidham did fumble the ball once but he ended up recovering it himself.
Davis gives the Auburn secondary a leader by example. Facing an SEC slate with some underrated quarterbacks, Auburn will need that moving forward. Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald, Mizzou’s Drew Lock, Ole Miss’s Shea Patterson, and Alabama’s Jalen Hurts all can give defensive coordinators a headache.

According to Walter Football, Davis also ranks among the best cornerbacks in the country in terms of NFL Draft stock in 2018. He projects as a second or third round pick. He’ll be fighting for not only Auburn’s chances in the SEC but his own NFL Draft stock.
