Rose Bowl (Playoff No. 1)

Rose Bowl (Playoff No. 1): Oklahoma vs. USC
Where: Rose Bowl Stadium (Pasadena, Calif.)
When: Jan. 1, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
Last week’s projection: Ohio State vs. USC

Not only did Oklahoma take Ohio State’s spot in the playoff but they planted their flag in the middle of Ohio State’s field. That game, that flag planting was more than just revenge against the Buckeyes but announcement to the Big 12 and the nation that Oklahoma is a going to be around for a  while this season.

USC is back in the Rose Bowl for the 3rd straight week in the projections and now with the victory over Stanford, it appears that the Trojans will be riding high for the time being. The Pac-12 offers little resistance and a victory over Texas next week gives the Trojans another impressive victory in the early portion of the 2017 season.

Week 3 Impact: Both Oklahoma and USC should stay in this spot over the next few weeks. The early September tests have been passed by both teams and we won’t see true tests until October when Oklahoma faces Texas and Kansas State in back to back weeks. Meanwhile, the USC Trojans won’t have a real test until they travel to South Bend on October 21st to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
