2. Secondary’s inexperience might cost the Buckeyes

Younger defensive backs such as Damon Arnette and Jordan Fuller seemed to have found comfort in the Ohio State defensive scheme in the second half of the Indiana game. However, OU quarterback Baker Mayfield picked apart their secondary in Week 2.

Mayfield could be the best quarterback that Ohio State plays against all season. Yet, a championship team would not have allowed an opposing quarterback to pull away like Oklahoma did in the second half.

Junior safety Damon Webb did finish the game second on the team in tackles. Arnette finished third but he was also picked on for much of the game. Jeff Badet and Dimitri Flowers combined for 12 catches, one touchdown, and nearly 200 receiving yards. Badet was better than Arnette.

Last year, inexperience in the secondary did not cost the Buckeyes too often. However, it has already cost Ohio State on one occasion. You cannot solely blame the secondary for this loss. It was largely a lousy effort from the entire team.
