Texas Football: Five Overreactions from Texas vs San Jose
By Shelbie Warr
Texas football struggled mightily against Maryland in Week 1, but was able to put together a relatively complete performance for a win against San Jose State.
The entirety of the offseason has consisted of talk about how great Tom Herman will be for Texas and how this season would bring them back to national prominence. Something we’ve all heard before right? And so far, it’s turned out relatively like the last few seasons – not so great.
The Longhorns fell against Maryland in Week 1 in astoundingly bad fashion. Their special teams struggled to get a field goal through the uprights and it seemed that sophomore starting quarterback Shane Buechele was trending backwards. Fans started to throw trash on the field, people were angry, it wasn’t one of Austin’s finest moments.
On Saturday, true freshman Sam Ehlinger made his first start after an injury to Buechele last week. It went seemingly better than the week before, although this was just an FCS team. The true test will come next week against top ten ranked USC. That game will likely be the make or break for the Texas season. Win and they may be for real, lose big and stare down the barrel of another 5-7 season.
A lot has happened the last two weeks for Texas football. Here are five slight overreactions stemming from the season so far.
