When does Jim Harbaugh become bored with Wilton Speight and turn the ball over to Brandon Peters? Speight struggled against Florida throwing two consecutive interceptions returned for touchdowns keeping an inept Gator team in the game in Week 1.

Speight threw for a measly 7.6 yards per attempt against the Cincinnati Bearcats a team that stood at 79th on the S&P+ rankings. He avoided interceptions but did have the fumble below and his play is simply pedestrian. Harbaugh doesn’t have high expectations for Speight- he simply wants a “game manager” as the cliche goes.

However, a Quarterback that can’t get an offense going isn’t quite managing the game. Michigan, ranked ninth in the S&P+ should’ve beaten Cincy more convincingly than 36-14.

Who would replace Speight? I can’t see Harbaugh wasting much time on John O’Korn. The Houston-transfer is a redshirt senior and doesn’t offer much more than Speight. That leaves Peters, who was a strong challenger in the spring and fall camp or Dylan McCaffrey. Peters is a 6-foot-5 and 210-pound quarterback who was a four-star recruit coming out of high school who redshirted in 2016.

Then there’s McCaffrey, the brother of Christian and son of Ed, who’s a 6-foot-5, 200-pound four-star true freshman. Dylan could use the year as a redshirt to bulk up but Harbaugh has never cared about the waiting game. Just look at what Don Brown is doing with the inexperienced defense. Michigan’s defense is as dominant in 2017 as it was in 2016 when it was loaded with NFL Draft picks.
