5. Derrius Guice could be better than Leonard Fournette

Everyone knows the name and the talent that’s attached to it, Leonard Fournette. In three years at LSU, one of which was shortened due to injury, he racked up 4,356 yards from scrimmage. That’s a whole hell of a lot, and a hard thing to replace. Derrius Guice, a junior running back, is doing his best to make that happen and man is he good at it.

Let’s take a look at the below video for just a second. The guy does not stop running, the feet continue churning even after contact as he fights for every yard possible. If you were able to watch any of the last two games for LSU, you know that this could be a special season for the young man who actually has Tiger Stadium tattooed on his calf- no joke. Commitment.

My biggest takeaway watching him so far is simply his patience. Guice waits for his blocks to develop, finds a hole, and exploits it for big gains. That is something a lot of guys struggle with and the fact that he has developed that patience already sets him up for success in the NFL.

In my opinion, look for Guice to outdo Fournette. Maybe not by yard numbers as Fournette is ranked fourth in LSU history in that category. But on overall productivity and impact on the team as a whole, I’d take Guice easily.

Side note, Guice also got a group of his friends together and contributed to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort by stuffing their cars full of cases of water to send Houston’s way. He said there was 80 to 90 cases in all. What a guy.
