The Texas A&M football program needs to find some answers quickly before it starts the SEC portion of its schedule in two weeks.

One of the most disappointing teams of the year so far has been the Texas A&M Aggies. With expectations to at least compete in the SEC West, we’ve seen this team blow more than a 30-point lead against the UCLA Bruins and barely defeat an FCS team in Nicholls State.

According to Dallas News, head coach Kevin Sumlin said that Texas A&M will continue to use two quarterbacks this week against Louisiana-Lafayette. With the initial starting quarterback, freshman Nick Starkel, likely out for the entire season after having ankle surgery, the Aggies were sent searching for answers.

So far, neither true freshman nor former Oklahoma State transfer Jake Hubenak have proven to be great options. Mond has the more promising future while Hubenak offers more experience. Hubenak at least won three games, out of six starts, with the Aggies last year.

The two-quarterback system is something that most coaches try to avoid. And with good reason. It keeps the offense away from garnering any sort of consistency and does not let the quarterbacks themselves get in rhythm.

However, Kevin Sumlin is fighting for his job right now since he’s on what is probably the hottest seat of any coach in the country. He needs to find a good path to success for this Texas A&M football program, and that starts with solving the quarterback problem.

The answer could be Starkel, once he returns from injury. But we do not know when that will actually happen. And Starkel did not play that well against UCLA before he went down with injury. However, he was able to move the ball a bit better than Mond.

Now, let’s take a look at three reasons the two-quarterback system won’t work for Texas A&M.
