Louisville Football: 3 bold predictions for Week 3 battle vs. Clemson
By Zach Bigalke
2. Lamar Jackson will excel as he strengthens his Heisman bid
Lamar Jackson was no one-year wonder with Louisville. He dazzled the country along the way as he won the Heisman Trophy last year. Jackson dominated opposing defenses with both his arm and his legs with one huge performance after another. Though he is also a junior like Bryant, he is far more experienced and has a proven track record of success.
Through the first two games of the season, Jackson has already averaged over 500 total yards of offense per game. Last year he threw for 295 yards and ran for another 162 against a tough Clemson defense. This year, the Tigers held Kent State and Auburn to a combined nine points and 237 yards of offense to start the year 2-0.
While the Tigers remain formidable on that side of the ball, Jackson has stepped his game up another gear from last season. The quarterback is averaging 385 passing yards and 119 rushing yards per game, and he already has eight touchdowns so far this season in wins over Purdue and North Carolina.
When he takes on Clemson at home on Saturday in prime time, Jackson is going to put on a highlight-reel performance. Look for the Cardinals quarterback to put up even bigger numbers than he did last year, throwing for 350 yards and rushing for 175 with five (or more) total touchdowns.
