After a lapse in judgement, Texas A&M football’s Will Gunnell apologized for flipping the bird at cameras heading into the locker room.

It wasn’t exactly a banner day for Texas A&M football on Saturday afternoon. Despite coming out of Week 3 with a comeback win, of sorts, over Louisiana-Lafayette, it was flat-out ugly. The Aggies were losing at halftime to a “cupcake” opponent.

However, one Aggie played had a complete lapse in judgement when he flipped the bird at the cameras heading into the locker room.

Freshman receiver Will Gunnell flipped the bird and apologized immediately after the game, likely after he was checking social media. Surely he saw the backlash of his double-birded hand gesture heading into the locker room.

This is what he had to say:

While it was a stupid mistake, you have to feel for a kid who realized he made a mistake. At least he realizes the magnitude of his actions and that it will likely stick with him for the remainder of his college career in College Station.

Gunnell likely meant to just flip off the cameras heading into the locker room, but it could have been taken as a gesture to the fans. He cleared that up in his apology.

Silly mistake by a college kid or not, this is the type of thing you need to really think about before doing. He’s trying to be funny, but it just fell flat. Surely Gunnell will be paying for it at practice this week.
