Virginia Tech Football: Takeaways from win over ECU
3. Running game is a problem for the Hokies
Starting running back Travon McMillian had himself a solid game against ECU. However, it’s not near what we thought it would be for such a talented and experienced rusher. McMillian finished the game with 72 yards on 11 carries.
In total, Virginia Tech managed 4.6 yards per carry on 287 team rushing yards and three touchdowns. They should have been better against a defense as bad against the rush as the Pirates front seven.
There’s some great run defenses in the ACC that will really test the Hokies. Clemson, Florida State, NC State, and Miami all have good front sevens. Virginia Tech needs to put up at least 6.0 yards per carry against any team the strength of ECU.
