Playing on the road at East Carolina, No. 16 Virginia Tech fell behind 17-7 in the first quarter. It looked like 0-2 ECU might have an upset bid brewing. But then the Hokies rattled off 57 unanswered points in the final three quarters, and Justin Fuente‘s team moved to 3-0 with a comfortable 64-17 victory in Greenville.

Josh Jackson lit up the Pirates secondary, going 24-of-31 for 372 yards and five touchdowns through the air. Three different running backs went over 50 yards on the ground, fueling a 267-yard rushing effort by the Hokies. The Virginia Tech defense held East Carolina under 300 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers on the day.

The Hokies now turn their attention to a visit from Old Dominion before their ACC opener against Clemson. Virginia Tech looks like a possibility to climb up a spot or two into the top 15 of the AP Top 25 this week after taking down ECU decisively in hostile territory.
