Mississippi State welcomed No. 12 LSU to Starkville on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs were a 7.5-point underdog at home. Instead, they will vault their way into the AP Top 25 after taking down Ed Orgeron’s Tigers in a 37-7 victory that left no question about which team was better on the day.

Nick Fitzgerald completed 15 of his 23 passing attempts for 180 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldog quarterback added another 88 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 14 carries. He helped fuel a strong rushing attack that beat up LSU at the line of scrimmage. Aeris Williams led Bulldogs rushers with 146 yards on 23 carries, outshining Tigers rusher Derrius Guice on the night.

Mississippi State will now be part of the shifts that see new SEC teams flood into the AP Top 25 this weekend. Look for the Bulldogs to slide into one of the bottom three or four spots, either just above or just below the LSU team they knocked off in Week 3 to begin SEC play with a bang.
