College football is heating up and heating up fast. In Week 3, there were Top 25 Hail Mary finishes, Top 15 upsets, Top 15 beatdowns and epic rematches.
This is the third installment of “overreaction Monday” for the 2017 college football season. Last week in my overreactions, I alerted everyone of the possibility of Baylor losing to Duke and starting the season 0-8. I also said that Sam Darnold is not the MVP of Trojans. He once again tossed two interceptions in a game where they definitely could have smashed Texas.
To start Week 4, let’s take a look back at some of my “overreactions” from Week 3.
1. LSU still can’t score
Year in and year out, the LSU Tigers continue to put some of the most talented players on the field every Saturday. Their defense is always one of the best in the SEC, sometimes in the nation. LSU also has some of the best skilled players. Former skilled players feature Leonard Fournette, Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr.
But the question mark is always the quarterback position.
In the offseason, they tried to address the issue by bringing in one of the best play callers in the game, former Pitt Panther Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada.
For the first two weeks, it looked to be working. But in Week 3, they went back to their old ways. Danny Etling had a QBR of 10.2 The Tigers were out gained by the Mississippi State Bulldogs 465-270. They eventually lost the game 37-7.
Matt Canada and the LSU Tiger offense has two “tune-up” games, Syracuse and Troy, before they play the Gators at the Swamp. If the Tigers don’t have a better offensive night than the Florida Gators, something has to change.
