Post-Week 3 College Football Playoff Projections
4. Washington Huskies
During the offseason, I made a prediction that the Pac-12 was USC’s to win and I may have been wrong about that. The Trojans continue to take two steps forward then two steps back with Sam Darnold under center.
The Huskies, on the other hand, are slowly impressing as they enter Pac-12 play. They are 3-0 and ranked seventh in the AP Poll. Last week, they did away with the Fresno State Bulldogs, 48-16, in another blowout victory.
Quarterback Jake Browning went 19-for-22 with 255 passing yards and four passing touchdowns on the day. Running back Myles Gaskin had eight carries for 56 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Gaskin also had a touchdown reception.
Wide receiver Dante Pettis had five catches for 92 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Pettis also tied the FBS record for career punt returns for touchdown. He scored on a 71-yard punt return late in the first quarter.
The Huskies put up 27 points in the first quarter and didn’t make it close as their defense allowed just 313 total yards and forced an interception in the game.
They have an interesting road ahead of them, but they seem to be prepared to make another run at the College Football Playoff. Three of their next four games on the conference schedule are on the road with two of them coming in back-to-back weeks. Next up is the Colorado Buffaloes. They’ll give Washington all they can handle as they’re also undefeated this season.
