The Longhorns almost pulled off the biggest upset of the early college football season against the USC Trojans. Texas had them against the wall until USC kicker Chase McGrath hit a clutch field goal to tie the game in the dying seconds.

The McGrath field goal put USC in position to ultimately emerge victorious in a double overtime game that will go down as an instant classic. However, first-year head coach Tom Herman proved something that few of us thought possible for the Horns.

Not only did Texas compete with USC, they almost defeated them on the road. Herman still has the ability to beat any team at any time. That makes the Longhorns very dangerous for even the best teams in the Big 12 that have to face them this year.

The Red River Shootout and their annual meeting with Oklahoma State should be very interesting to watch. This is a team that could still be a dark horse to win the conference.
