Not all upsets are created equal when it comes to college football. Here are the three worst losses from Week 3 action around the country.
There were some rough losses for teams this weekend, with upsets dealt out all across the Saturday schedule of games. No. 12 LSU lost big on the road at Mississippi State, No. 18 Kansas State bombed at Vanderbilt, No. 19 Stanford fell at San Diego State, and No. 25 UCLA stumbled in a shootout at Memphis.
Then there was an FCS-over-FBS upset, as Idaho State took down Nevada in Reno as a 33-point underdog. Ohio knocked off Kansas, sending the Jayhawks closer to immortal ignominy as they inch toward the FBS record for consecutive road defeats.
None of these teams, though, suffered one of the three worst losses of the week. Earning that distinction isn’t always about a win by the biggest underdog, or suffering the biggest blowout. Close losses sometimes merit consideration just as much as a whitewashing.
These three teams raised the bar of disappointment in Week 3. Two fell in close losses on the road, while the last was a blowout defeat at home.
