4. Justin Phillips is an All-Big 12 talent

One of the two interceptions that the Cowboys racked up last weekend came from linebacker Justin Phillips. He also returned that interception 10 yards for a touchdown. When Phillips returned the pick for a touchdown, the score was already out of hand.

This was the second week in a row that Phillips took back an interception for a touchdown. Phillips also picked off South Alabama quarterback Dallas Davis in another blowout win. It’s big for any linebacker to do what Phillips is doing right now.

The type of stats that Phillips is accumulating is quickly making him not only an All-Big 12 candidate, he’s also becoming a leader on the Oklahoma State defense. Pitt could not handle him or senior safety Tre Flowers (the other Cowboy defender to intercept a pass).

Oklahoma State is thin at linebacker right now. It did not cost them against Pitt, luckily. Kenneth Edison-McGruder should be back for the TCU game. However, Phillips has emerged alongside senior Chad Whitener as a leader at linebacker.
