5. Arkansas’ defense might be the worst unit in the SEC

Let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room. Neither of these teams is all that great. There’s a chasm between the Crimson Tide and wherever these squads stand in the SEC West. While the A&M offense has some questions, the Arkansas defense is hopelessly poor.

How bad? Using the TCU game as a measuring stick, abysmal. Arkansas allowed the Frogs to convert 10-of-14 third downs and complete 21-of-31 passes. The TCU running backs metronomically found holes in the Razorback front seven and plodded through for six or seven yard gains. Slowly but surely the Frogs were able to move down the field at ease and take ease shots at the endzone.

A game against Florida A&M makes most of their defensive statistics rank somewhere in the middle of the pack, but as conference play gets under way that will change. Arkansas has a tendency to get caught napping. That’s not going to end well with guys like Christian Kirk, Jhamon Aubson and Trayveon Williams on the field. The Razorbacks couldn’t track down Trevor Knight last season. Mond has some wheels as well and he’s going to use them against the Hogs.

Linebackers Santos Ramirez and Dre Greenlaw are both going to have to step up in a big way and held their fellow members of the defensive front seven pressure Kellen Mond. If they can’t get the young passer rattled it’s going to be a long game for the Razorback defense, again.
