2. Nick Fitzgerald‘s Heisman campaign is done (for now)

Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald proved himself on a national level last week against LSU. However, a rough performance where he completed less than half of his passes for only 83 yards and zero touchdowns will not get it done.

There’s now expectations in Starkville for Fitzgerald to show a Heisman-type effort every single week. Seeing what happened in Week 4 showed Mississippi State fans that not every quarterback is perfect.

It is also a very long process for a program like Mississippi State to get up to speed with the more talented football teams in the SEC. So much of the offensive pressure is on Fitzgerald’s shoulders, and that’s a lot to bare for one player on any team.

Fitzgerald still has the opportunity to recover from this loss. It will take some big wins over the next few weeks to build his reputation back up again. However, if Mississippi State starts winning in the SEC again, Fitzgerald could put his name right back in the running for the Heisman.
