1. Myles Brennan is the future

If we’re being honest, the primary role of whomever plays quarterback at LSU this season is to turn around and hand the ball to Derrius Guice. Anyone can do that. You can do that. So why has it take so long for LSU head coach Ed Orgeron to realize it?

His starting quarterback, Danny Etling, exited the game in the third quarter. There was no official word on whether or not it was an injury that had put Etling on the sideline or not. LSU had a 21-10 lead, which was comfortable, but not “time to play the backup” comfortable.

For whatever the reason, Brennan finally got his shot at the reigns of the beleaguered Tiger offense.

Brennan wasn’t perfect, but he is the answer

The results were mixed, but keep in mind that is was a freshman playing his first meaningful snaps of the season. To this point Brennan had served in mop-up duty against BYU and Chattanooga, but had only attempted five passes.

Brennan was allowed to let it rip six times against Syracuse. With four completions, he threw for 75 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The highlight was a masterful 43 yard completion to Darrell Williams which would set up a 20 yard touchdown run.

LSU would go on to put this game away, winning by a final score of 35-26. While the Orange did rally for 16 points in the third quarter to make it interesting, there were never any true worries for fans in Death Valley on Saturday. Instead, they were treated to a glimpse of the future.

Etling has had a year plus to prove he has what it takes to keep this job. He flat-out hasn’t done enough to deserve it. LSU needs someone who can stretch the field with his arm. That’s not Etling, it’s Brennan.
