3. The Virginia Tech Hokies have to start out fast on offense

The Virginia Tech Hokies have a big game looming next week against the second-ranked Clemson Tigers. It was good for them to get a victory here, but a slow start against the Tigers could produce mixed results.

The Hokies led 17-0 at halftime over the Old Dominion Monarchs, but the team left some points on the board. Kicker Joey Slye missed a 27-yard field goal early in the first quarter.

Virginia Tech punted twice and quarterback Josh Jackson threw an interception after the Hokies missed the field goal in the early going. After that, the offense found its groove, scoring their first touchdown of the game. They jumped out to a 17-0 lead just before halftime.

The Hokies’ offense is on a scoring run but again, that run could be put in jeopardy next week when Clemson comes to Blacksburg. The offense will need to be a lot more focused in Week 5 as they should be against the top team in the ACC.
