2. Josh Jackson has to be more patient in the pocket

The Virginia Tech Hokies got another solid outing from quarterback Josh Jackson, but he’ll need to show a bit more poise in the pocket. Jackson forced a some of his throws in the game and it showed with an early interception in the second quarter.

He tried to force a pass into wide receiver Cam Phillips and Old Dominion was ready for it. The Old Dominion secondary blanketed Phillips in coverage all-game long. Phillips still managed to catch seven receptions for 106 receiving yards, although most of it came in the first half. He was held scoreless otherwise by the Monarchs.

Luckily for the Hokies, running back Steven Peoples stepped up with a big day with three touchdowns for the offense. He had three receptions for 73 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns and 63 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Virginia Tech Hokies continue to develop playmakers around wide receiver Cam Phillips. Wide receiver C.J. Carroll also caught a touchdown pass in the game.

Wide receiver Sean Savoy, a true freshman, is another player to watch in the Hokies passing attack. He had two catches for 28 receiving yards.
