1. The Hokies defense remains stingier than ever

The Virginia Tech defense played another tough game, pitching their second shutout of the season against the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Hokies defense only allowed seven first downs and 149 total yards of offense to the Monarchs. Old Dominion went 2-of-14 on third downs and punted 10 times in the game. Six of those 10 punts came on three-and-outs from the Monarchs. Their longest possession lasted 3:23 in the first quarter.

The Virginia Tech defense remains the strongest unit for this football team. They only sacked Old Dominion once in the game but allowed zero red zone trips. Although the offense started out slow, the Hokies defense wasted no time picking up where they left off last week.

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds led all tacklers with six tackles and 0.5 tackle for loss. Safety Reggie Floyd also had a solid day with four tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss and a forced fumble.

It’s the first season the Hokies have pitched multiple shutouts since 2006.
