Not every loss is created equal, and some defeats sting for far longer than others. Here is our list of the three worst losses in Week 4 of the 2017 season.

Every week there are dozens of winners in college football. That invariably means that there are also dozens of losing teams, week after week, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. But just because two teams lose does not mean that the losses are equivalent.

Everything from a program’s current record and ranking, to the quality of opponent and venue and injury report, help determine whether a loss is of a high or low quality. When a team like No. 6 Oklahoma State loses to No. 16 TCU, or No. 17 Mississippi State falls on the road at No. 11 Georgia, it is inevitable that one ranked squad had to fall. But a loss of that nature is hardly as detrimental to a school as falling as a big favorite against an unranked opponent.

No two losses are identical, and no one loss has quite the same impact as any other. Every group of fans that is forced to watch their team fall is bound to take the loss harder than others on the docket. But that doesn’t mean it is among the worst losses of the weekend.

In the aftermath of the previous Saturday, we dig through the results and assess which teams suffered the worst losses in the slate of games that were played that week. Continue on to see which defeats we rated as the worst losses of Week 4 this season.
