Plugging in the Irish running backs as at least an ‘A’ has been a constant since the start of the season, and Saturday’s win only continued the momentum. Notre Dame now has a clear idea of what units they can rely on the most: the offensive line, linebackers, and running backs. This backfield has got off to a tremendous start, much thanks to standout Josh Adams.

While Adams’ 59-yard outing on Saturday was considerably low, it was due to a decrease in carries as the game begin to slip away from the Spartans. Adams has put the team on his back over the last few weeks, and the ability of Notre Dame’s backfield to maintain the pace without him allowed head coach Brian Kelly to give him significant rest.

The team as a whole rushed for 182 yards on the day as Wimbush began to try his luck throwing the ball, and either Wimbush or a running back was responsible for all touchdowns in the game. Dexter Williams again enjoyed a fine outing, carrying the ball eight times for 40 yards and a score both through the air and on the ground.

Sophomore Deon McIntosh also saw some action with Tony Jones Jr. sidelined with an ankle injury, taking a team high 12 carries for 35 yards and a score. With a rushing attack that has scored 16 rushing touchdowns since the beginning of the season, look for them to continue their success next week against Miami of Ohio.
