USC was still struggling to put away the game in the final quarter. The Trojans defense stepped up big in the final frame, and few players were bigger than cornerback Jack Jones. Jones picked off Bowers early in the game, stopping a Cal drive in the first quarter as the Golden Bears were pushing toward midfield.

His second interception came late in the contest, as Jones snared the second of Bowers’ three turnovers in the fourth quarter. The sophomore in the defensive backfield helped ice the contest as he showed perceptive ballhawking skills at the perfect moment. His first pick was all about proper technique, positioning, and strong hands. His second, coming off Josh Fatu‘s tip of Ross Bowers’ pass, was opportunistic.

The youngster is rapidly becoming one of the best members of USC’s talented secondary. With the first two interceptions of his burgeoning career, Jones gets one of this week’s game balls for the Trojans. The cornerback could haul in far more over the next few years as Jones continues to develop into one of the best defensive backs in the nation.
