Toledo hoped to secure a statement win against a Power Five team this past weekend when they took on the No. 14 Hurricanes in Miami. The Rockets went down 10-0 in the first quarter, but a surge in the second frame put them up 16-10 at the intermission. Unfortunately for Toledo, it was the closest that the MAC contenders would come to securing the upset on the road. Miami eventually pulled away for a 22-point victory, and Toledo sustained its first defeat of 2017.

It was a sobering result for the Rockets, who had an off-and-on day on offense and struggled to contain Malik Rosier and Mark Walton on defense. The running game struggled against the Hurricanes, gaining only 85 yards on 35 carries as they fell on the road. Logan Woodside once again looked solid at quarterback, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. He did, however, lose a costly fumble when the Rockets were still within a single score of their hosts.

In Week 5, the Rockets take a well-deserved rest before diving into MAC play. Toledo opens its conference campaign on October 7 with a visit by Eastern Michigan, who fell out of the Group of Five Power Rankings this week after a double-overtime defeat against Ohio in interdivisional play. At this point, the game against Northern Illinois on November 2 looks like the de facto division championship.
