Pac-12 Football 2017: 5 teams that will be on upset alert in Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
Speaking of Stanford, the Cardinal has the pleasure of facing one of last week’s upset darlings. Arizona State stunned Oregon with a 37-35 victory in Tempe that went down to the wire. Manny Wilkins and N’Keal Harry are one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the entire country. They burned the Ducks for big gains last Saturday, and they could do so again in an afternoon showing in the Bay Area.
Stanford is hoping that it finally solved its quarterback riddle after K.J. Costello asserted himself in last week’s win over UCLA. In the past, however, Keller Chryst and Ryan Burns had also both been anointed as the next big thing under center for the Cardinal. They are both now riding the pine in favor of Costello, and if he sputters against the Sun Devils one of those two confidence-shaken veterans will have to reenter the game.
Bryce Love is going to get plenty of yards on the ground against the Sun Devils, but he cannot do it all by himself. Given that he is primarily only a runner, Love offers a limited range of skills. Arizona State will try to shut him down and make the Cardinal quarterback(s) beat them through the air. If that happens, Arizona could be ripe to pull off a second straight upset in Pac-12 play.
