2. Shane Buechele is the starter for a reason

Tom Herman kept the quarterback situation for Texas very close to the chest during the course of the week before the game started. Shane Buechele missed the San Jose State and USC games because of injury.

However, we all figured out who Herman believes Texas has the best chance of winning with. Even though Sam Ehlinger played so well against USC, just because Buechele got injured did not mean he lost his starting job. He threw for just over 170 yards and added another 42 on the ground.

Buechele’s stat line was nothing special in this game. He tossed just as many interceptions as he did touchdowns. Yet, the one interception he did throw could have possibly been caught by his receiver. It was an overall productive night for Buechele.

Ehlinger is likely to still take some snaps in future games. Especially if Texas jumps out to some early leads against inferior Big 12 competition later in the season, we’ll see a heavy dose of Ehlinger so that Buechele does not increase his injury risk.
