ACC Football: MVP for each team entering Week 5
QB TaQuon Marshall, Georgia Tech
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets seem to have found their prototypical Triple-Option quarterback in junior TaQuon Marshall. The Yellow Jackets have rebounded nicely since the transfer of Marcus Marshall and dismissal top-returning rusher Dedrick Mills.
Quarterback TaQuon Marshall has 386 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns and 280 passing yards and three passing touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets offense this season. Head coach Paul Johnson has found a nice fit to replace Justin Thomas and it has Georgia Tech off to a 2-1 record.
They are 1-0 in the ACC after a 35-17 over Pittsburgh last week. Marshall has 112 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in the game. He’s averaging 128.6 yards per game and opened the season with 249 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. It’s possible he does more damage as the Georgia Tech offense is averaged 393.7 rushing yards per game.
RB Mark Walton, Miami
Miami Hurricanes running Mark Walton has taken on the task of offensive weapon No. 1 with departure of quarterback Brad Kaaya. He’s essentially picked up where he left off after rushing for 1,117 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns in 2016.
Walton has run for 352 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 27 carries. The gameplan going forward for the Hurricanes should be to give Walton the ball and get out the way. He’s averaging an FBS-best 13.2 yards per carry this season.
Walton is coming off a 204-rushing yard and one touchdown performance last week against the Toledo Rockets. He’s averaging 176.0 rushing yards through Miami’s first two victories. So far, quarterback Malik Rosier hasn’t had to do much with Walton in the backfield. Let’s see if it stays that way.
