ACC Football: MVP for each team entering Week 5
QB Chazz Surratt, North Carolina
Redshirt freshman dual-threat quarterback Chazz Surratt has swooped in to save the day for the North Carolina Tar Heels, or at least he’s tried to. The former Duke-commit turned Tar Heels signee has stepped up in place of graduate transfer quarterback and former LSU Tiger Brandon Harris.
Harris began the season as the starter but his numbers have placed him on the bench. He’s got 276 passing yards, a passing touchdown and two interceptions this season.
Surratt, on the other hand, has proven to be more accurate. He’s thrown for 847 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and an interception on 64.3 percent passing. Surratt has also shown his abilities off on the ground. He’s got 117 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
The Tar Heels are 1-3 but Surratt has shown promise. They could bounce back with plenty of games left in the season.
WR Quadree Henderson, Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Panthers have been a mess on offense this season. They rank 112th in the FBS in scoring offense at 20.0 points per game. They’ve flipped between quarterbacks Max Browne and Ben DiNucci but to no avail, things haven’t gone in a positive direction. The Panthers are 1-3 this season but one player has still left some hope.
Wide receiver Quadree Henderson has just 75 rushing yards on 13 attempts and 90 receiving yards on six receptions this season on offense but he’s still found a way to make an impact on special teams.
He’s got 15 kick returns for 311 kick return yards, averaging 20.7 yards per return. On punt return, he’s got six returns for 80 yards. His 80 yards came on a punt return for a touchdown against Georgia Tech last week in an attempt to keep it close.
The Panthers would be wise to find some more ways to get the ball in Henderson’s hand. If their offensive woes continue, head coach Pat Narduzzi could be out of a job.
