1. The Cougars’ offense is broken

Three. That’s how many offensive touchdowns BYU has scored in 12 quarters of football. That’s less than one score per game. The Cougars were shut out by LSU and failed to cross midfield.

Well, it’s LSU, you say. They’re a tough defense, right? The Tigers were scorched by Mississippi State 37-7 in Week 3 and allowed 26 points to Syracuse. This isn’t the LSU defense of a few years ago, and it’s an indicator that something is terribly wrong in Provo.

Quarterback Tanner Mangum is completing 54.5 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and four interceptions. The offense on a whole holds a minus three turnover margin.

The running game has been equally despondent. Squally Canada headlines the unit, but he has just one touchdown on 25 carries for 118 yards. The unit as a whole averages 3.1 yards per carry. BYU’s wide receivers have managed to make some plays down the field, but not one has separated themselves as the go-to option.

It’s not going to be pretty, and the odds of BYU putting up a lot of points on Saturday night aren’t great. One or two mistakes that spot the Aggies even a two score lead might prove insurmountable. It’s unfortunate, but the Cougars aren’t walking away from this road trip with a win.
