Auburn Football: 3 Takeaways from win over Mississippi State
Auburn football destroyed the Mississippi State Bulldogs 49-10 on Saturday evening. Here are three takeaways from the beat down.
Every time you count out the wing-t based gurus like Gus Malzahn or Paul Johnson they come back strong and keep fans complaining for another year. Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers were struggling to find a quarterback and more than seven or eight wins. With cross-state rival Alabama playing for the national title on an annual basis the Auburn Tigers can ill afford another okay season. So far in 2017 they’re 4-1 with the only loss coming 14-6 at the hands of the Clemson Tigers.
Gus Malzahn has found success through Jarrett Stidham, the grad transfer quarterback from Baylor. Stidham struggled against Clemson but he found his stride against the Bulldogs. Even though he’s an offensive coach, Malzahn has found success playing aggressive defense and relying on the running game like an old school football coach.
For Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs, they upset LSU but have been in a slump since. The Georgia Bulldogs shut them down winning 31-3 and embarrassing Mullen’s offense. Mullen, who led the Florida Gators to two national titles in 2006 and 2008 as an assistant for Urban Meyer, has scored one touchdown the past two weeks. As soon as Mullen thought he was out of Starkville, they pull him back in. Here are the three takeaways from the game.
