SEC Football: Alabama, others on Upset Alert in Week 5
No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs @ Tennessee Volunteers
Sept. 30, 3:30pm ET, CBS
The Tennessee Volunteers lost their first game in SEC play a few weeks ago and struggled at home against the UMass Minutemen but a victory against Georgia can heal all wounds.
The Volunteers are still reeling from their 26-20 defeat to the 20th-ranked Florida Gators. It showed last week in their close 17-13 victory over UMass, a team that is 0-5 in 2017. It is unclear if the errors have been solved but don’t put an upset past the Volunteers.
The task for Tennessee is finding the end zone on offense. They currently rank 70th in the FBS in scoring at 30.2 points per game. Quarterback Quinten Dormady has thrown for 861 passing yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
The Georgia Bulldogs are 4-0 despite original starter Jacob Eason being out with a knee injury. Backup Jake Fromm has stepped up nicely in his place. Fromm has thrown for 650 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns and an interception.
Wide receiver Terry Godwin has also enjoyed Fromm’s presence as the starter. He’s got eight receptions for 214 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns this season.
The Volunteers won last year’s game on a Hail Mary play. Anything is possible here as Georgia sits on upset alert.
